WATCH: Utah firefighters assist in battling California wildfires

PARK CITY, Utah  — Utah firefighters have joined the fight against raging wildfires in California, providing critical support in areas like the Encino mountainside.

During their first 24-hour shift, Utah crews witnessed a remarkable aerial assault as tactical helicopters and air tankers dropped continuous rounds of water and fire retardant to help halt the fire’s advance.

“The calm winds allowed fire officials to deploy these firefighting giants effectively, virtually stopping the fire’s progress toward us,” a Unified Fired Instagram post said.

The deployment is part of a broader mutual aid agreement that sends Utah crews to assist in emergencies across the West. KSL News reported a team of 64 Utah firefighters from 17 agencies have been sent to California helping battle the wildfires raging in Los Angeles County.

The group, which includes 15 engines, five overhead trucks, and one mechanic, was deployed early on Jan. 9 and is expected to remain in California for two weeks.
