Our Town: A legacy of community and service in Park City

To Team Cheever, 'Mountainkind' means putting community first - from offering neighbor-to-neighbor care and supporting local businesses to actively participating in Park City's thriving ecosystem of service and support

PARK CITY, Utah — Jonathan Cheever, a second-generation master plumber, is raising the bar for trades, plumbing, and community engagement. Along with his fiancée, Madeline Soule, he co-owns Team Cheever, a plumbing and HVAC company that has been serving Park City for years.

From Snowboarding to Plumbing
As a teenage snowboarder, Jonathan had little interest in pursuing a trade. He was on the U.S. Snowboard Team from 2005 to 2021, competed in multiple Olympic games, 10X Games, and nearly 100 World Cups, among other elite snowboarding events.

His parents told him he could be “whatever he wanted to be,” but “he was also going to be a plumber.” Jonathan is grateful his dad was a plumber and introduced him to the trade.

As a teenager, when he wasn’t snowboarding, Jonathan called himself a “one-man wrecking crew,” gaining experience installing water heaters, fixtures, and performing small bathroom renovations. He later worked for a plumbing service company in Park City for a year.

A Smart Career Move
Jonathan’s decision to pursue plumbing turned out to be a smart move. According to Jonathan, the home services industry is growing by $9 million every year, with plumbing and HVAC seeing a collective growth of $5 billion every year. Jonathan says it is an “insane opportunity” and a trade he is excited to be part of.

“I’m stoked that my family got me into it,” he shares.

A Commitment to the Community
As small business owners and proud Park City residents, Jonathan and Madeline make it a point to connect with their neighbors. Jonathan shared that to him, “Mountainkind” is all about community: “I’m proud to be in Park City, proud to have a business in Park City.

Jonathan’s personal connection to Park City runs deep, and this sense of belonging reflects in how they operate their business.

“I’m constantly bumping into people at the grocery store, on the hill, our kids go to school together,” Jonathan says. “I tell everyone I serve that I am their neighbor, and I’m going to take care of them.”

This philosophy is also reflected in their business practices. Jonathan actively supports other small businesses in Park City, offering discounts and fostering collaboration in the thriving Park City ecosystem.

Taking Care of Their Employees
In the home services industry, technicians are often paid commission, which can sometimes create pressure to upsell. Jonathan’s approach is different. “We treat our employees very well, and if we treat them well, they’ll take care of the customers,” he explains.

A Vision for the Future
Jonathan and Madeline’s vision for Team Cheever is to become a staple of the Park City community. They aim to make Team Cheever the go-to plumbing and HVAC contractor, where locals know they can trust their neighbors to take care of them.

Creating a Lasting Legacy
Beyond business, Team Cheever is committed to supporting local snowboarding events and contributing to nonprofit organizations. They make it a priority to focus not just on the business side, but on the community as well.
