Incoming weekend storm could drop 8″ of snow in Park City’s mountains
Up to a foot of snow possible in Little Cottonwood Canyon as cold front moves in overnight
PARK CITY, Utah – We will see slight warming today ahead of an approaching winter storm moving in overnight Friday into Saturday morning. The main cold front is slated to arrive in the early hours Saturday morning, bringing with it the heaviest snowfall from about midnight through 8am. Conditions are shaping up for what looks to be a decent powder day across the Wasatch tomorrow.
Expected snow totals through Sunday
- Park City town/base: 2-5”
- PCMR / Deer Valley: 4-8”
- Cottonwoods: 7-13”
Unsettled weather and light mountain snow showers will linger through Sunday evening, with perhaps an additional 1-2” of snow as northwest winds remain in place. Cold temperatures with highs in 20’s and lows dipping into the single digits are forecast for Park City through Monday. Things begin to change Tuesday as high pressure builds into the area with pronounced warming throughout the week. The next chance of snow after this weekend remains uncertain at this time.
It’s been an interesting week of weather with off and on periods of northeasterly winds bringing strong gusts across the Wasatch front, frigid wind chill temperatures, and unusual wind patterns in the mountains. The Utah Avalanche Center forecast rates the avalanche hazard as “considerable” in the Wasatch for today for mid- to upper-elevation slopes facing west through east.
