LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Three Utah cowboys claimed world champion titles at the 2024 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas, solidifying the state’s rodeo legacy. Ryder Wright of Beaver, Dean Thompson of Altamont, and Josh Frost of Randlett emerged victorious in their respective events, showcasing exceptional skill and determination on the sport’s biggest stage.

Ryder Wright, 26, captured his third world title in saddle bronc riding, having previously won in 2017 and 2020. With season earnings of $479,957, Wright dominated the 2024 rankings, adding another chapter to his family’s storied rodeo history. His uncles Jesse and Spencer Wright were world champion saddle bronc riders in 2012 and 2014, respectively.

Dean Thompson, 22, secured his first world title in bareback riding, topping the 2024 standings with $412,121 in earnings. After a breakout season, Thompson proved his meteoric rise, moving from a 13th-place finish in 2023 to becoming the best in the world.

Josh Frost, 29, won the bull riding world title after covering seven of ten bulls during the NFR. Frost’s stellar season included 11 wins and over $476,887 in earnings, marking a career-best. As a member of the legendary Frost rodeo family—his cousin Lane Frost was a 1987 world champion—Josh continues to elevate his family’s name in the sport.

Other Utah competitors also impressed, including Hayes Weight (second place in bull riding), Cooper James (third place in bull riding), Tyler Bingham (ninth place in bull riding), and Cash Robb, who earned third in the world for steer wrestling.

The achievements of these cowboys highlight Utah’s deep-rooted connection to rodeo and the talent emerging from the state.
