Lightning Ridge terrain now accessible with Powder Mountain’s new lift
EDEN, Utah – For the first time in its history, Powder Mountain will drop the rope on the highly anticipated Lightning Ridge area of the mountain with access via a brand new lift. Lightning Ridge features expert terrain and advanced chutes along with lift connectivity between the Sundown base area and the rest of the resort.
The resort marked the event Tuesday morning with a celebratory banner-breaking ceremony, accompanied by coffee, donuts, and exclusive limited-edition swag at the base of the lift.
Resort officials say the new Skytrac fixed-grip quad lift provides access to killer terrain, it also creates a vital connection between the Sundown base area and the rest of the resort. Both the Frontside and Backside of Lightning Ridge will be open, offering expert skiers and snowboarders fresh terrain to explore. However, the Paradise Lift remains closed due to low snow levels. For now, Backside laps will conclude with a ride back to the base via a passenger snowcat, which has a capacity limit of 18 people per trip.
In the past Lightning Ridge was only open to skiers and riders via cat skiing when conditions allowed.
With 34 inches of snow in the past week, conditions are prime for powder enthusiasts eager to test out the new lift. Powder Mountain reminds skiers and snowboarders that Lightning Ridge serves expert terrain only and that early-season hazards, including rocks, stumps, and branches, may still be present.
“This landmark opening at Powder Mountain offers skiers and riders a unique opportunity to experience the expansive terrain of Lightning Ridge in style. For those seeking untouched powder and thrilling runs, this may quickly become their new favorite spot on the mountain,” a press release from Powder read.
