Of The Black Sea ski documentary explores connection through sport and culture
PARK CITY, Utah — Award-winning ski film “Of The Black Sea” will make two Utah stops, screening at Salt Lake City’s Urban Lounge on November 13 and Park City’s Jim Santy Auditorium on November 20.
The film, which earned the Best Storytelling award at the IF3 Festival and gained official selection at the Banff Mountain Film Festival, follows professional skier Giray Dadali as he explores his Turkish heritage through the lens of mountain culture. The documentary moves beyond traditional ski film boundaries, tracking Dadali’s journey to his father’s homeland of Türkiye as he navigates cultural identity through mountain adventures.
Both screenings will include additional features showcasing Utah athletes, including “ZORRO” with Wiley Miller, “PROOF” starring Colby Stevenson, and segments from Dynastar’s “TRANSMISSION” featuring Alex Lundstrom and Sander Hadley. The events will also feature opportunity drawings for premium ski gear, including custom J Skis powder skis, Stio outerwear, and touring equipment.
Turkish artist Pinar Birim, who appears in the film, will attend both screenings to showcase and sell original paintings. The Salt Lake City showing is 21 and over, while the Park City event is open to all ages.
