The game against Spanish Fork featured thrilling moments, with the Miners seizing a second-quarter lead when junior Eli Warner returned a kickoff 95 yards, bringing the score to 14-10.
Tied at 17 in the third quarter, senior quarterback Bash Bodily connected with senior wide receiver Reece Smith for an 89-yard touchdown, putting the Miners up once more. However, with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Spanish Fork tied the score at 24 after a 61-yard run on a fourth-down play.
With only a minute left, Spanish Fork’s Kaden Vest broke free for a 76-yard run, securing the win and advancing the Dons to the semifinals at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
“This season has been awesome,” Bodily told TownLift after Friday’s game, taking it all in stride. “I love my teammates and coaches. It was extremely disappointing to not get the win on Friday. We wanted to win the championship. It just didn’t work out.”
Looking ahead, Bodily plans to compete in track this spring before heading to play Division I football after graduation. This is the time of the year when college applications are occurring, so it’s befitting that Bodily has four offers thus far and is also talking to several other schools.
I've lived in Park City for 30 years but right off the starting line, my journalism professors expressed plaudits after class for writing more so about the small-town sports in the surrounding mountains than the urban updates they assigned. Therefore, I’m on par punning and penning Parkites' pastimes. Turning high and early through my career, I’ve worked communications for The Olympics, the Paralympics and the Special Olympics. Additionally, there's been National Geographic, Patagonia, NCAA, USA Nordic and the United States Library of Congress, so I guess you could say this ain't my first rodeo.
