Finding their line: Pro skiers navigate motherhood in “Rad Moms”
JACKSON, Wyo. — A new documentary series, *Rad Moms*, filmed at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, follows five professional skiers as they navigate the intersection of elite skiing and motherhood.
The series drops in on these athletes as they tackle Jackson Hole’s infamous terrain and an equally daunting challenge at home: raising the next generation of rippers. What emerges is a story about finding flow in both the steeps and the chaos of family life.
Three-time Olympian Resi Stiegler embodies this transformation. “I’m in this — my mom era, and I’m like, bring it on,” she reflects. “Let’s empower women so that they can have as many children as they want — And feel like that would be totally normal to be out skiing pregnant, post pregnancy, whatever it is.”
The documentary features an accomplished roster:
Jess McMillan: A Freeride World Tour Champion who has won more freeskiing competitions than any other skier and has been a regular fixture in Warren Miller Entertainment films since 2011.
Lynsey Dyer: An accomplished big-mountain skier who co-founded SheJumps, a nonprofit organization aimed at increasing the participation of women and girls in outdoor activities.
Crystal Wright: A professional skier and personal trainer who has competed in numerous freeskiing competitions and won the Freeskiing World Tour Title in both 2009 and 2012.
Jessica Baker: A seasoned big-mountain skier and guide whose expertise and passion for the sport have been featured in various ski films and publications.
From early days training with the U.S. Ski Team through a career marked by World Cup podiums and Olympic appearances, Stiegler has experienced the full spectrum of competitive skiing. Now, she embraces a different kind of challenge: “It’s hard to wake up and take care of your kids in general, and then people add stuff onto their plate…sometimes I just want people to just be so proud that they’re a mom. You do not have to define yourself with more or feel like you’re not accomplished enough. Besides, a mother is, like, the greatest role of all time.”
“Rad Moms” offers an unvarnished look at how these athletes approach both the steeps and the challenges of parenthood, suggesting the two pursuits might not be so different after all.
