Here’s what to know today:
- When can I expect results? Polls will fully close in 6 states starting at 7 p.m. EST. We’ll use this page to bring you updates on the presidential race. Follow our congressional race updates, Spanish language coverage and more on the AP’s results hub.
- What is Dixville Notch? The tiny New Hampshire town has a tradition dating back to 1960 of being the first in the nation to complete in-person voting. The town’s six voters began casting their ballots at midnight and the vote count was complete 15 minutes later.
- The AP’s role in elections: From before dawn and continuing until all votes are counted, thousands of AP journalists work around the clock to report on the results of a U.S. general election. We only call races when we can definitively say a candidate has won.
