Police identify Duchesne woman, daughter killed in Heber crash

Family of the victims sends a message about the importance of buckling up

HEBER CITY, Utah – The driver of the vehicle involved in the fatal car crash south of Heber Tuesday afternoon has been identified as 35-year-old Norma A. Jones, of Duchesne. Jones was driving a Volkswagen sedan when it crossed the center line and collided with a pickup truck near Daniels Summit.

Jones and her three-year old daughter were thrown from the front seats of the vehicle and died on impact. Her two sons were in the backseat of the car, highway officials said – they were flown to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Initial reports stated that none of the vehicle’s occupants were wearing seatbelts. While it is believed that Norma Jones and her daughter, Rosie, were not restrained, it is believed that Jones’ 11-year-old son may have been wearing his seatbelt, according to a KSL news report. Jones’ six-year-old son recently underwent back surgery at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. Both of the boys are in stable condition.

Jones’ family talked to reporters outside the hospital. “It’s a miracle that two of our four are standing with us today. What I could say to anybody that is driving a vehicle or has a family and loved ones like me and all my family here, I would put that seat belt on,” Jones’ husband, Fred Jones said.

Jones’ family told KSL she was on her way to get a food order from the Heber Food Bank when she was killed.

Two men in the pickup truck received injuries requiring hospitalization and were properly restrained.

A family friend has started a GoFundMe page to help raise money for the Jones family as Fred Jones is now left to care for his remaining children.
