Parkite turns personal journals into published book on spiritual awakening

Sinclair’s journal entries highlight transformation and resilience

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City resident Sinclair released his book “Lions & Tigers & Bears – Or I?: A Once Private Journal” on Oct. 20, offering readers a rare glimpse into his personal journey of self-discovery. If you’ve ever wanted to peek into someone else’s journal to learn how it’s done, now’s your chance.

Finding his way to Park City

Sinclair’s journey to Park City is as varied as his experiences. Having lived in multiple cities across the United States, the one place that remained constant was his grandparents’ home in Park City, purchased in the 1980s. Sinclair spent many vacations skiing in the area, and when it came time to choose a permanent residence, Park City was the clear choice.

Though he now calls Utah home, Sinclair’s roots run deep in Philadelphia, where he grew up as a proud Eagles fan. He later attended Vanderbilt University, earning a degree in psychology, and started his career as an NBC Page in New York, giving studio tours and working behind the scenes at Saturday Night Live.

Sinclair relied on his education when life presented him with serious challenges. Now, he wants to share what he learned about journaling with others.

The book that bares it all

Sinclair’s “Lions & Tigers & Bears — Or I?” is the first installment in a three-part series, chronicling the spiritual awakening of a former Hollywood executive through his personal journal entries.

On the surface, Sinclair appeared to have it all. He had spent the last decade working in Hollywood, overseeing shows for USA, Syfy, Bravo, E!, New Regency, and Lionsgate. At the time of his life’s turning point, he was working as an executive for a major TV actress’ production company. Adding to his outward success, he lived with a long-time roommate who had become a star on one of the world’s most popular reality TV shows.

But behind the scenes, Sinclair was deeply unhappy.

His book begins when his life starts to unravel. First, he is fired from his job. Then, in a vulnerable moment, he confesses his romantic feelings for his roommate, only to be rejected.

With no place to turn, Sinclair immersed himself in journaling, using it as a tool to cope with his personal and professional struggles. Over time, his emotional well-being improved, even as his job search faltered and his relationship with his roommate remained strained.

Developing the book series

Initially, Sinclair planned to write a book about journaling. But after revisiting his own journal entries, he realized that sharing them directly would be more impactful. To protect the privacy of others, he changed the names of real people who didn’t play a central role in his story, referring to them with titles like “the contact.” He also included text messages and emails that contributed to his narrative.

The goal of the series is to help others by showing that it’s okay to be vulnerable and authentic. In contrast to the curated, often superficial world of social media, Sinclair hopes his transparent approach will inspire readers to explore journaling, meditation, and self-help as ways to transform their own lives.
