Park City Mountain Resort will open Sunrise Gondola in time for 2025-26 season
PARK CITY, Utah – Park City Mountain Resort will debut the new Sunrise Gondola in time for the 2025-26 ski season. Construction of the gondola began in July of 2024. The 6,500-foot-long gondola will run from Canyons Village to a terminal located near the Red Pine Lodge, with cabins designed to accommodate up to ten people comfortably.
The new lift addresses wind-related issues that have frequently affected the Red Pine Gondola and Orange Bubble Express. To combat windholds, the Sunrise Gondola will follow a lower, terrain-hugging alignment with heavier cabins for increased stability, and the lift line will be positioned to the north to provide more natural wind protection.
Construction began this offseason, with initial work including clearing the lift path, building foundations for towers, and improving utilities and infrastructure. The final installation phase will take place next summer, adding towers, terminals, haul ropes, and the gondola cabins. As part of the project, the Sunrise chairlift will be removed.
For the 2024-25 season, PCMR has also implemented snowmaking improvements on the “Another World” and “Chicane” trails, widened the Tombstone Alley trail, and created a new intermediate run near Chicane.
Opening day is set for Friday, November 22, weather permitting.
