Park City calls on residents for input on General Plan update

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City officials are asking residents to help update the city’s General Plan, a blueprint for future growth and development.

According to city documents, the updated General Plan will build on key aspects of the 2014 plan, like preserving Park City’s small-town character and maintaining open spaces. It will also focus on new initiatives, such as increasing affordable housing options, integrating renewable energy sources, and reducing reliance on automobiles through improved pedestrian and bike infrastructure. The updated plan includes proposals to limit visitor-oriented development to resort areas and discourage national chains on Main Street. It also emphasizes expanding year-round recreation, with plans to develop a connected regional ski lift system and to support future Olympic events.

The city is seeking 30 volunteers to serve on neighborhood advisory committees. Three residents will represent each of the city’s ten neighborhoods. The volunteers will provide critical input on local challenges and opportunities. The General Plan update will unfold over ten months, and committee members are expected to dedicate several hours each month to the process.

Residents interested in joining a Neighborhood Advisory Committee must apply by Oct. 25 by emailing planning@parkcity.org with their name, address, residency status, years in Park City, and reasons for wanting to serve on the advisory committee.

In October, the city will also conduct a Resident Dual-Mode Survey through phone calls and online interviews to gather more input. This comprehensive planning process shows how proactive planning is needed to address the anticipated growth in neighboring Summit and Wasatch counties, which have seen rapid development in recent years.
