Arrest made in Park City domestic violence case
PARK CITY, Utah — A Park City man was arrested on Oct. 7 following an alleged domestic violence incident in the Silver Springs neighborhood, according to an affidavit filed with the 3rd District Court. Charges include aggravated assault, interfering with a communication device, and resisting arrest.
Sgt. Felicia Sotelo of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office described the incident as a domestic dispute between the man and his wife, which escalated into physical violence. “This is a domestic violence call,” Sotelo said. “It looks like a married male adult and female adult got into an argument and an assault occurred. The male was ultimately arrested and taken into custody.”
The affidavit reports that the woman sustained visible injuries, including a wound on her forearm and marks consistent with strangulation. According to the document, she attempted to call 911 during the altercation, but the man allegedly took her phone, preventing the call.
The incident further escalated when law enforcement arrived on the scene. The affidavit reports that the suspect initially resisted arrest, leading to a physical altercation with deputies. One officer required medical attention following the struggle, according to the affidavit.
Despite a friend getting photo evidence of the marks on the victim’s neck, the suspect denied choking allegations, stating only that he took the phone during the argument.
The affidavit suggests the man could pose a danger if released, citing a history of assault and the nature of the current charges. A no-contact order was put in place following the arrest to ensure the safety of the victim.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
On Sept. 26, 2024, City Council, along with Mayor Nann Worel, passed a resolution declaring October 2024 “Domestic Violence Awareness Month.” Local resources, such as the Peace House, are available for those experiencing domestic violence in Summit County, providing support and assistance to victims. Peace House also recently held its “Be the Light” event, which rallied support for survivors.
