Yellow Lake Fire grows to 2,300 acres in Utah’s Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest

WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — The Yellow Lake Fire east of Mill Hollow Reservoir has grown to an estimated 2,300 acres as of today, with 0% containment, according to a statement by the U.S. Forest Service.

The wildfire remains active in heavy timber despite light precipitation Sunday night. Fire managers are employing all available resources to suppress the blaze, with 24-hour operations continuing until further notice.

The fire is burning in timber and standing dead and down trees. It has crossed to the east side of Highway 35, west of Potts Hollow. Fire behavior includes active burning in the understory and torching of individual and groups of trees.

Currently, 80 personnel are assigned to the fire, including ground crews, aircraft, engines, and bulldozers. Additional resources are expected to arrive this evening.

The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest is working with Wasatch County on an area closure for public safety. Closed areas include Mill Hollow on the west, Soapstone Basin area south of Highway 150, Iron Mine Mountain to the east, and the West Fork of the Duchesne River to the south. Highway 35 remains closed to through traffic for public and firefighter safety.

The closure is expected to last at least 48 hours until fire activity decreases and roads can be cleared of debris.
