Peace House’s “Be the Light” event rallies support for survivors
HEBER CITY, Utah — As October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), Peace House is rallying the community to recognize survivors and commemorate those lost to interpersonal violence.
The nonprofit organization is hosting an event featuring a brief walk, followed by addresses from Heber City Mayor Heidi Franco and Edwin Gianini of the Lauren McCluskey Foundation.
According to the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, the purple candle symbolizes a personal pledge to foster respectful relationships and represents a unified stance against domestic violence. It also signifies hope in “Lighting the Way” for survivors.
The event will include activities with partner organizations and food provided by local vendors Churro Wagon by the Border and Las Chatas. Resources for those affected by domestic violence will be available.
Peace House emphasizes the importance of community involvement in creating change. The organization states that this event is a chance to “Spark Change,” highlighting their belief that ending domestic violence requires collective effort.
The observance of DVAM aims to raise awareness, provide support for survivors, and promote prevention strategies in communities across the nation.
