Families set sail in 5th Annual Cardboard Boat Race
PARK CITY, Utah — PC Recreation is gearing up for the 5th Annual Cardboard Boat Race, an exciting end-of-summer event open to families and children ages 5-15. The race will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Park City Aquatic Center, promising a day of fun, friendly competition, and creativity.
Participants will construct boats using only cardboard and duct tape provided by PC Recreation. Registered captains will receive three large boxes, one roll of duct tape as starter materials, and a participant medal. Those who register after the August 20th deadline are welcome and may compete but will not receive starter supplies.
Races will run consecutively, with time allocated between heats for teams to make necessary repairs before advancing to the final rounds. The top boat from each heat will move on to the final race, while other teams will have a second chance in the “grudge match” to re-enter the competition.
The event begins with check-in from 9:30 to 10 a.m., and races will start promptly at 10 a.m. The final race is estimated to finish by noon. The entry fee is $40 per team.
