Utah’s Taylor Booth, USA Men’s Soccer Team Eliminated in Paris Olympics Quarterfinals

PARIS — Taylor Booth and the USA Men’s Soccer Team were eliminated from the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday after a 4-0 loss to Morocco in the quarterfinals.

Booth, 22, hails from Eden, Utah, and is part of a dynamic soccer sibling duo with his younger brother, 19-year-old Zach. Both brothers currently play in the Netherlands on rival squads. Taylor started his career with Utah’s Real Salt Lake youth team, which is in the same league as the Park City High School’s Soccer Team, before transferring to Bayern Munich’s youth team in 2019. Zach has also played in the Premier League.

When they were young, the Booth brothers played on Salt Lake Valley’s La Roca Club, a team that took part in the Extreme Cup Soccer Tournament last week.

The Booth brothers first faced each other in international play this February in the Netherlands. Taylor’s hat trick outshone Zach’s single goal, leading to a gentleman’s wager where Zach paid for dinner, with Taylor choosing the restaurant. “Oh, we’re going expensive,” Taylor told an ESPN reporter, laughing with his brother, Taylor just a little bit louder though.

In the quarterfinal match against Morocco, Morocco scored in the 29th minute on a penalty kick, followed by goals in the 63rd, 70th, and 90th minutes, ending the USA’s Olympic run. Team USA had advanced to the knockout stage for the first time since the Sydney 2000 Olympics, marking only the second time the U.S. Olympic Men’s Soccer Team has progressed from the group stage since the current tournament format was introduced in Rome 1960.

Earlier in the tournament, Team USA had set a record by scoring four goals in one game during pool play, but the same number came back to haunt them against a strong Moroccan team.
