Sundance film festival host committee wraps site inspection, showcasing Utah’s dual-city vision

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Sundance Film Festival Host Committee completed a successful site inspection on Tuesday August 27, presenting a reimagined festival footprint that spans Salt Lake City and Park City. The inspection included tours of key venues, theaters, and performing arts spaces, emphasizing the theme “Two Cities, One Experience,” which preserves Park City’s legacy while expanding into Salt Lake City.

Why it matters: The inspection highlighted the collaborative efforts of Utah’s Host Committee, which includes the Utah Office of Tourism, Utah Film Commission, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Park City, Visit Park City, and Visit Salt Lake. The group showcased Utah’s unique blend of urban and natural settings, supported by a strong infrastructure and a deep connection to the arts.

What they’re saying: “Salt Lake City is a thriving cultural hub with a deep commitment to the arts,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall. Park City Mayor Nann Worel added, “Park City has been the heart of the Sundance Film Festival for over four decades, and we are thrilled to continue being a host city.”

Utah Governor Spencer Cox reinforced the festival’s importance to the state, saying, “Sundance is Utah, and Utah is Sundance.”

Up next: The final selection for the festival’s footprint will be made by the first quarter of 2025, with ongoing collaboration between the host committee and Sundance representatives. The tour also emphasized the region’s commitment to sustainability, accessibility, and diversity—key values for the festival.
