Transform your space: Ship Shape Homes brings affordable home revamps to Park City
PARK CITY, Utah — Fontaine McFadden, a Park City local with a knack for transforming spaces into beautiful, functional havens, has launched Ship Shape Homes. This new venture aims to help residents revamp their homes without the hassle and expense of a full renovation.
McFadden’s journey in home design started when she was just a kid, influenced by her mother. “My love affair with home design started very early. My mom was an architect, and I loved visiting job sites with her,” she said. Her first remodel at the age of 29 involved transforming a garage storage room into a guest room, an experience that taught her a lot and fueled her passion further. “It delights me to no end to be able to walk into a home and see what could be improved and then to make it happen,” she added.
Ship Shape Homes offers a variety of services, including rearranging existing pieces, decluttering and organizing, art framing and hanging, personal shopping, landscape planning, and paint and wallpaper selection. The business also caters to specific needs, such as preparing homes for new babies by reinventing nurseries. For larger projects, Ship Shape Homes provides project management services, working closely with contractors to ensure smooth execution.
McFadden finds joy in marrying form and function in her designs. “I am a very organized person and love to create order out of chaos and to make things functional,” she said. She emphasizes practical living, especially focusing on children’s needs in her current phase of life, while also appreciating aesthetic beauty.
Reorganizing and streamlining spaces is a key aspect of her work. “The best thing about reorganizing a space is offering a newfound love of the space,” McFadden explained. She often steps in when homeowners feel stuck and need a fresh perspective. “It feels so good when I can help someone find new beauty and use of a space that was previously disliked and unused,” she said.
The most challenging part for clients is often getting started. “They may know that they don’t like their powder room but are unsure of what to do to change it,” McFadden noted. Many clients feel overwhelmed by endless choices and hit a wall. McFadden aims to be the friend with good taste who helps them navigate these decisions without the high fees of an interior designer or architect. “I want to make good design approachable for everyone,” she stated.
When she isn’t working, McFadden is deeply connected to the Park City community. “You can find me playing with our two boys all over town – the tire swing in Round Valley, the pump tracks at Creekside, Trailside and Matt Knoop or the sandbox (ie volleyball court) at Willow Creek. If I’ve got time to myself, I’ll be playing tennis at the Marc, sweating at Good Movement or having a coffee at Hill’s Kitchen. We try to catch a few concerts each season at Deer Valley and we enjoy the lawn at Versante as much as we can throughout the summer. As soon as the snow comes, you can find me up Bald Mountain or at the Sticky Wicket!”
