Spirit Airlines to launch new daily flights from Salt Lake City to Fort Lauderdale and San Diego
The new routes will launch on June 20, 2024
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Spirit Airlines announced the addition of two new destinations from Salt Lake City International Airport, FLL and SAN, just in time for summer travel.
Starting June 20, 2024, Spirit will offer daily nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and San Diego, California, directly from Salt Lake City. This expansion increases Spirit’s nonstop destinations from Salt Lake City to five, including the existing services to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Orlando, which vary from daily to five times a week.
Destination: | Flights Available: | Launch Date: |
Fort Lauderdale (FLL) NEW | Daily | June 20, 2024 |
Las Vegas (LAS) | Daily | Existing Service |
Los Angeles (LAX) | Daily | Existing Service |
Orlando (MCO) | 5x Weekly | Existing Service |
San Diego (SAN) NEW | Daily | June 20, 2024 |
The introduction of these routes comes at a pivotal moment for Spirit, following the recent termination of its merger agreement with JetBlue on March 4, 2024. The merger was initially seen as a strategic move to create a low-cost powerhouse within the industry. However, with the dissolution of this agreement, Spirit’s focus has shifted towards expanding its own network and providing more affordable travel options for its customers.
For travelers in the Salt Lake City area, the new services to Fort Lauderdale and San Diego offer a mix of beach and city destinations.
