SALT LAKE CITY — Local and state officials celebrated alongside members of the public on Friday after Salt Lake City was named the preferred host of the 2034 Winter Olympic Games by the International Olympic Committee last week.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall lead the celebration at the Olympic and Paralympic Cauldron Plaza at Rice-Eccles Stadium which culminated in the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron.
Utah medalists from 2002 through 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games were also present, alongside prospective athletes for the future through 2034.
