Pile burning to continue on Treasure Hill Open Space Dec. 1
PARK CITY, Utah — Pile burning is expected to continue this week on the Park City-owned Treasure Hill Open Space.
This is part of an ongoing effort that began on Nov. 15 to burn through 1,500 piles scattered throughout 55 acres in the area.
According to a statement from the city, burning will resume on Friday, Dec. 1, and will be performed by Alpine Forestry.
“Controlled burning of slash piles is a form of fire mitigation designed to prevent catastrophic wildfires through safely burning cut vegetation creating defensible spaces, reducing fuel, and promoting overall forest health,” said a statement from the city. “Burning operations will strictly conform to all required county permitting, ideal weather conditions and air quality regulations to ensure public and resource safety.”
Smoke will be visible in the area at this time, and the city has asked that residents do not report it.
Crew vehicles will be parked on the roadside near work sites during pile burning. Trail closures in the area may become necessary.
