Thompson Ridge Fire now 85% contained
UTAH — The Thompson Ridge Fire near Fishlake National Forest now stands at 7,253 acres and 85% containment, according to an update today from Utah Fire Info.
Firefighters will continue suppression repair and patrols of the fire area. A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team has started working on the fire to stabilize natural resources.
“BAER teams are staffed with specialists in hydrology, soils, engineering and vegetation to treat the burned area,” said an update from the Great Basin Incident Management Team 5. “Treatments can include reseeding with native species and improving drainage to prevent washouts and flooding.”
The Fishlake National Forest has reduced the closure area impacting roads and trails near the fire perimeter, however, the public is still advised to remain cautious when recreating in fire impacted areas.
“There continue to be many hazards in the burned area requiring ongoing assessment and repair before the area can be fully reopened,” said an update from the Great Basin Incident Management Team 5.
Closure orders are in place for portions of National Forest Service (NFS) Roads 1011, 575, and all of 587. NFS Trails 165, 241, 243, 244, 247, 285, and 287 also remain closed. Find more information on NFS closures here.
