Soldier Hollow Nordic Center expanding space, opportunity
MIDWAY, Utah — This week the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center (SOHO) celebrated the groundbreaking to both renovate and expand the venue’s competition building.
On Facebook, the administrators wrote, “This facility will transform Nordic skiing resources in Utah and the Heber Valley – enhancing Soldier Hollow’s athlete development programs to better serve national team athletes, masters athletes and the participants in Team SOHO’s youth development programs while bolstering Soldier Hollow Nordic Center’s reputation as a world-class destination for biathlon and cross-country skiing.”
SOHO is a sister facility under the umbrella of the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation along with the Utah Speedskating Oval in Salt Lake City, and the Utah Olympic Park in Park City.
During the Salt Lake 2002 Olympics, SOHO was the host venue for Olympic and Paralympic biathlon, cross country skiing, and nordic combined.
The ground floor will feature a new ski rental, gym training area and team clubhouse to better serve local, national and international athletes. The first floor will include a café and retail area, skier services desk for tickets and lessons, and a lounge area. The top floor consists of multi-use event space for group events, hospitality, meetings and community gatherings.
This project will add 19,115 square feet to the current competition building to supplement an overhaul of 7,670 existing square feet.
“Thank you to all of the incredible partners, supporters and community members that make projects like this possible,” wrote the team on Facebook.
Venue updates and upgrades like these don’t go unnoticed by the decision-makers at the International Olympic Committee monitoring bids like Salt Lake City’s for the 2030 or 2034 Winter Games.
Summer offerings at SOHO include:
- June 23-25 Bike Fest/Yurt Party
- Summer Adventure Kids Camps
