PCPD shares tips for avoiding ‘smash-and-grab’ crimes

PARK CITY, Utah — With a recent string of car robberies and smash-and-grab crimes in the Park City area, the Park City Police Department has shared the following tips to help residents avoid falling victim to thieves:

  • Never leave valuables in your car so they are visible.
  • Always lock it and take the keys with you. Criminals will check for hide-a-key boxes.
  • Don’t leave chargers or cords visible to indicate you may have hidden electronics.
  • Maintain purchase history records or consider insurance for valuables as a backup.

“Smash-and-grab crimes don’t just happen in warm weather,” said a statement from PCPD. “Thieves won’t be slowed down by a little snow. If you park your car to go skating or skiing, follow the same rules as you would when parking in the spring or summer.”
