39-year-old Florida man charged with assault in chairlift altercation at PCMR after viral video emerges
PARK CITY, Utah — Carlos Lamar Dinkins, a 39-year-old man from Florida has been charged with assault in connection with a now-viral video of a physical altercation that took place on a chairlift at Park City Mountain Resort on December 26.
Dinkins faces a class B misdemeanor charge for assault with a recommended fine of $1,080, and a class C misdemeanor charge for disorderly contact with a recommended fine of $160. The charges were filed in Summit County Justice Court on January 4.
The case is scheduled for arraignment with Judge Shauna L. Kerr on February 27 at 9 a.m. The assault charge mandates that the defendant must appear in court. A class B misdemeanor can carry a fine of up to $1,000 and 6 months of jail time, while the class C misdemeanor charge can carry a fine of up to $750 and 90 days of jail time.
The reported altercation occurred between two Florida men. The 52-year-old man allegedly elbowed Dinkins in the face while the two rode on a chairlift. The 52-year-old man denies that this occurred. Dinkins then claimed to have punched the older man multiple times until the 52-year-old man stopped being aggressive. The Dinkins denied saying that he wanted to fight the older man.
In response to the incident, the Senior Manager of Communications for Vail’s Park City Mountain Resort, Sara Huey, said, “Safety is our highest priority, and we do not condone violence of any kind at Park City Mountain.”
The video of the incident was published on TikTok by the profile @kaelynfaria and has 9.2 million views.
