Deer Valley aims to respect its history, prioritize city transportation goals in Snow Park redevelopment

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Planning Commission held a special work session last night to discuss the updated transportation, circulation, and parking plans for Deer Valley’s Snow Park Village redevelopment.

The Snow Park Village redevelopment plan aims to transform the Deer Valley Resort entrance experience with new hotel, residential, and commercial developments.

Currently, the Deer Valley Corporation has submitted two applications to the city for the redevelopment project, one amending Deer Valley’s Master Development Plan to add a thirteenth amendment to allow for the project and the other for a conditional use permit for Phase 1 of the project, which includes the Snow Park Conceptual Site, circulation plan, and a new transit center, as well as road and utility improvements.

This is the seventh meeting the Planning Commission has held on the project since the summer of 2021.

“Snow Park is an opportunity to create a new village that our staff, community, and our guests can be proud of,” Todd Bennett, president and COO of Deer Valley Resort. “As we look to the future, we think the Snow Park plan hits on a couple of important pieces… it respects the Deer Valley history and the people that built it… the Snow Park area is reflective of a world-class arrival and departure experience that we’re trying to create for our guests and resort, but it also supports a lot of the goals that Alex talked about for the community.”

According to Alexandra Ananth, the Planning Department planner for the Snow Park Project, the city’s transportation goals for Snow Park Village include prioritizing increased transit use and safe pedestrian and bike access, right size parking and paid parking, an actionable Transportation Demand Management Plan, and sufficient emergency egress to the area.

According to Bennett, Deer Valley aims to support the city’s goals by reducing single-occupancy vehicle traffic, spreading out peak load demand, and creating safer optimized circulation patterns.

This meeting follows two informational open houses on the project hosted by Deer Valley last week. The Planning Commission will review the project again at its meeting on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. Find information on the Snow Park Village redevelopment plan here.
