USA Skimo looking for race referees
PARK CITY, Utah — USA Skimo (skimo is short for ski mountaineering) is looking for national referees. It will hold a two-hour virtual training on November 30 at 6 p.m. MT. They will also have on-snow training at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area and in Frisco, CO, on December 9-11, where candidates will have the opportunity to help officiate three events:
- Vertical (A-Basin 12/9)
- Sprint (Frisco Nordic Center 12/10)
- Individual (A-Basin 12/11)
Both virtual and on-snow training is required. Prior racing experience is not required. Participation is limited to five trainees. Lodging will be covered from December 8 – 11.
Skimo was a participating event at the Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games in Switzerland and is on the Olympic Programme for its debut in Italy at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

This season’s qualifying races will be held in:
- Colorado
- New Mexico
- Montana
- Washington
- Utah
USA Skimo sanctions and governs competitive ski mountaineering racing in the US and promotes and fosters recreational ski mountaineering through access, resources, education, and community. Sanctioned skimo races in the United States abide by a series of rules by discipline, as directed by the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF). The ISMF recognizes USA Skimo as the sport’s national organization for the United States.
