Living with Wildfire events encourage community awareness of new realities, mitigation efforts
PARK CITY, Utah — Be in the know regarding wildfire realities in and around Park City by attending the Living With Wildfire Series – Using Fire to Fight Fire: Prescribed Fire and Smoke Management event on Tuesday, October 25 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. The event will be held at City Hall Council Chambers and available on Zoom.
With fire season becoming more longwinded, and a looming presence throughout the west, there are questions of its implications on Park City and the surrounding areas.
What role does fire have in our local landscape? How do controlled burns protect our community from destruction by fire? What are the keys to wildfire prevention? The public is encouraged to join in for this community event to learn the answers to these questions and hear from area professionals in wildfire ecology, wildlife biology, air quality, and more.
The community is also being urged to participate in the Park City Community Wildfire Risk Assessment Survey.
Park City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is utilizing the survey to seek community input on high value assets that could be impacted by wildfire, as part of a Community Wildfire Risk Assessment (CWRA). Up-to-date information and fire modeling will be used to assess local hazards and identify assets to mitigate risk and promote preparedness. A CWRA will help PCMC prioritize action on the landscape and improve their ability to respond to wildfires.
Email Logan Jones with further questions about Tuesday’s meeting. The public can stay updated on the CWRA project and receive email notifications from PCMC by submitting their email to wildfire@parkcity.org or visit the Engage Park City page.
