Mushroom Society of Utah holding Fall Foray 2022
KAMAS, Utah – As Fall rounds the corner, so does peak mushroom season. To celebrate, the Mushroom Society of Utah is holding their annual Fall Foray from September 9-11 at the Francis Town Hall, five minutes south of Kamas.
The event is closed to members of the society only, but those interested in joining can still sign up in time for the Fall Foray for a $20 annual membership.
The event will allow fungi fanatics to “meet, cook, foray, and attend talks and workshops” all about mushroom-love. Saturday September 10 features the most events, including activities about mushroom microscopy, spore printing, molecular gastronomy, and more.
Photographer and fungal fan David Winegar sent in photos of fungi he found on local hikes on Robs Trail, Ambush trail, and the Ridgeline connector. While visually beautiful, Winegar reminds readers that mushrooms “can be dangerous and even deadly” to ingest or even touch without proper training. He recommends formal training as the only trustworthy source on mushroom safety.
