Initially founded in 1983 as Park City Nursery, Park City Gardens, is a high-altitude resource for gardening knowledge and plants. Park City Garden is expanding and now includes a café, flower shop, boutique, and greenhouse. The new additions are open year-round and sell goodies, gifts, indoor and outdoor plants.
Owner of Park City Gardens, Sophy Kohler, describes a few of the seasonal happenings. “We are having a May Day bouquet-making class!” she says, “May Day is a celebration of nature and spring, often observed by leaving a gift of flowers on the door of your neighbor or loved one! Bring your favorite little person, and come to the Gardens anytime between 1:30 and 4:30 pm on Friday before the holiday (April 29) to make wrapped May Day bouquets to hang on a door or entryway. We will provide the flowers, paper, ribbon, and tools needed to come away with a lovely spring bouquet. $36 per person.”
The annual Plein Air Paint Out takes place Saturday, June 11, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. “Join Gallery MAR artists and gardening enthusiasts at Park City Gardens to enjoy libations and eats while perusing the gardens and summer plantings,” Sophy explains, “Watch the artists as they live paint. At the end, there is a “wet paint” art sale and prizes.”
Sophy is particularly excited about educating customers concerning water-wise and native plant options this year. “There are a lot of great varieties that we can introduce to people who want to be less water-dependent,” she says.
Sophy realizes that Park City is a special place to operate a business. Her favorite thing about owning Park City Gardens is, “Our community! Our plant and gardening community is very tight-knit. We learn from our customers as much as they learn from us. We also love collaborating with local organizations and businesses to bring beauty through plants and activities to Park City.”
