Hops and Hoops: March Madness in Park City

PARK CITY, Utah – Park City is known for the Sundance Film Festival, mountain retreats, and gastronomic delights, but we also love a good game of hoops. With March Madness right around the corner, let’s grab some brews, chow down on some pub grub and cheer on our favorite teams. Here are a few of our favorite places to watch the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Go Utes!

Drafts Burger Bar

In the Westgate Park City Resort and Spa, Drafts Burger Bar isn’t your typical sports bar. This bar and restaurant offers a complete 180 from dark dives and a comfortable, family-friendly, yet elegant atmosphere with ten high-definition TVs. As its name may imply, they also have 20 beers on tap from around the world and specialty cocktails. They offer creative milkshakes like the Vanilla Ice, a classic vanilla milkshake with Twinkie garnish that will please anybody looking to enjoy a non-alcoholic beverage while watching the NCAA Tournament. In addition to its playful milkshakes, you will find killer burgers and chicken wings on their food menu.

Perfect Pint: Moab Johnny’s American IPA
This classic American IPA features bold hops and citrus aromas. Pair it with their spicy ghost pepper burger topped with ghost pepper BBQ sauce, ghost pepper jack cheese, and smoky applewood bacon ($17).

Flanagan’s Irish Pub & Restaurant

If you’re looking for hometown dive vibes with an Irish flair to catch a March Madness game in Park City, then Flanagan’s Irish Pub & Restaurant is for you. Its old-school decor is complete with Irish flags, comfy booths, and a large bar with plenty of comfortable seating. They also have large-screen TVs throughout the bar and terrific food that makes it easy for fans to catch every NCAA Tournament game of the season while dining on classically delicious Irish fare. Think Cheers meets Dublin.

Perfect Pint: Guinness Irish Dry Stout

Do we need to explain this one? You’re at an Irish pub!

EBS Lounge

EBS Lounge is a popular après-ski spot in the heart of Deer Valley Resort that offers a chill March Madness experience. It’s an ideal spot for skiers looking to catch a basketball game between runs due to its proximity to the lift, and it boasts comfy lodge decor and a big-screen TV to watch the tournament. The food menu has delicious après snacks, while the bar menu has many local craft beers and cocktails. Make sure to grab an order of the OOMPH! Popcorn seasoned with Deer Valley’s signature Southwestern spice blend. You won’t regret it!

Perfect Pint: Park City Brewing Powder Buoy Pilsner

This low-malt high-flavor pilsner is an excellent complement to lots of March Madness favorite foods, basically anything with cheese!

Is there a better pairing than wings, beer, and football? No Name Saloon doesn’t think so.

No Name Saloon

When Parkites cheer on their team, they head to No Name Saloon. This eclectic watering hole has 17 big-screen high-def TVs and a down-to-earth atmosphere, making it a solid bar to watch any March Madness game. Order a World Famous Buffalo burger, knock back a few beers, and get ready to have a rambunctious time alongside sports fans. No Name has a heated rooftop patio, so you can catch the action while having a great view of Historic Main Street. The saloon is strictly 21 and over, so it’s age prohibitive for younger basketball fans.

Perfect Pint: Salt Flats Tilted Kilt Scottish Ale
This ale has all the compelling attributes of a traditional Scottish ale: nice caramel notes, slight sweetness, and just a little kick of vanilla and oak on the finish. Tilted Kilt is an excellent accompaniment to No Name’s famous buffalo burger with grilled onions, melted cheese, lettuce, and tomato ($16.50).

Wasatch Brew Pub

Wasatch Brew Pub has been a Park City staple for sports fans since 1986. Belly up to the bar, order one of their handcrafted beers and take in the madness from one of their large TVs. If you’re feeling peckish, check out their bar menu. It features game-time favorites like the Bavarian pretzel with cheese sauce, house-made breaded pickles, and beer-battered fish and chips. They also offer a dog-friendly patio, so bring Fido to help you cheer on your favorite team!

Perfect Pint: Jalapeno Cream Ale

This ale may sound strange, but it sure is delicious. You can only get this beer on tap, and it tastes just like it sounds: creamy with a nice kick of jalapeno. Pair this with some loaded nachos (+$11) or Hefeweizen flash-fried calamari ($13).

Boneyard & Wine Dive

Don’t let the name fool you! Boneyard & Wine Dive (21+ establishment) pour some great pints in addition to world-class wine. No matter where your head turns, you’re in view of the mass amount of televisions in the bar for multi-game watching. Boneyard is laid back and serves terrific comfort food. Wine Dive provides a chic atmosphere and elevated eats just across the hall from Boneyard.

Perfect Pint: UTOG Son of a Peach Hefeweizen
Prost! We can’t stop raving about this hefeweizen. It has a classic wheat beer mouthfeel with the subtle sweetness and complexity of ripe peaches. Plus, it pairs perfectly with their Amish Friendship Pretzel ($9.50).
