Annexation could take 9-12 months
PARK CITY, Utah — On Monday, the Park City Council accepted the petition for the annexation of 1,200 acres southeast of Quinn’s Junction.
The petition proposes that the annexed area will be used for recreational open space.
The unanimous vote initiates the City Recorder to certify the petition, which starts the public review process. State law requires the City to hold public hearings on the move.
Regarding the full timeline, City Attorney Margaret Plane said “it’s a little hard to predict with any certainty. I think at one point when we mapped it out, it can take up to nine or 12 months. I haven’t done the compressed version of that… once it kicks over to Planning Commission and City Council, there’s more play in the joints.”
When council member Nann Worel asked, “we may be looking at a year?” Plane said it “can happen much more quickly than that.”
The move ends the legal loophole saga with the town of Hideout, who wanted to annex the same area alongside Mitt Romney’s son and his business partners, who were looking to develop a commercial center.
