U.S. Forest Service planning a prescribed fire in the Shingle Creek area
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — The U.S. Forest Service is planning a 6,007-acre prescribed fire for the Shingle Creek area, anytime from October 1 to November 30.
The project is taking place roughly 8 miles east of Kamas on the north side of the Mirror Lake Scenic Highway. The burn will occur between the Upper Setting road (Forest Service road #034) and the Norway Flats road (Forest Service road #035).
The Forest Service is warning dispersed campers in this area to find another spot. Unattended equipment owners will be notified and asked to remove their things immediately. Hunters who may have installed hunting blinds or cameras will also need to remove them from the area as soon as possible.
The objective of the project is to stimulate aspen regeneration, improve wildlife habitats, reduce hazardous fuels, and improve forest health.
