Utah director of elections to depart
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Today Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson announced that Justin Lee, Utah director of elections, is leaving for another opportunity.
Lee has served in the role for 11 years.
“It has truly been my honor to serve as director of elections under two phenomenal lieutenant governors,” Lee said. “Utah is recognized as being at the forefront of elections administration and I’m grateful to have played a small part in that effort. I look forward to watching as Utah continues to demonstrate that elections can be safe, secure and accessible to all voters.”
Lee started his work in the Utah government in 2010, working in the Lieutenant Governor’s Office. He moved to deputy director of elections in 2012, and then was promoted up to director in 2017.
His work in the position included the transition to mail-in elections, updating voting equipment, and enhancing cyber and physical security.
“Justin’s faithful execution of election law has been a role model for elections officers across the state and nation,” Henderson said. “He helped ensure the security of our elections, integrated new technology and engendered the trust of the voters. I’m sorry to see him go, but I’m so grateful for his service to the people of Utah.”
