SNAPPED: (Pun intended) Like the Nathan’s hot dog “snap” on July 4

Coming in 4th place today in the annual Nathan’s Famous July 4 international hot dog eating contest in Coney Island, NY, was, Utah’s own, Kathryn Prettyman with 16 hot dogs. She beat her state-qualifying number of 14.

And in the men’s class, finishing in 11th place was Utah’s Steve Hammond with 27 hot dogs, down five from his state quali’ number of 32 according to the website Major League Eating. Those prelims were held at the Salt Lake Bees baseball stadium.

The winner of today’s ‘Mustard Belt’ was, for the 14th year, Joey Chestnut from San Jose, CA, who beat his own record of eating 75 hot dogs from the previous contest by one.

Miki Sudo, the seven-time former female winner sat this year out as she is pregnant with a little bun in the oven.

Because of the unique way in which Nathan’s Famous hot dogs are served, their casings are described as having a sought-after snap when bitten into.
