Calls for service: Police and sheriff logs

A supermarket saga highlights the calls for service made to the Park City Police Department (PCPD) and the Summit County Sheriff’s Department (SCSD) for the week of July 19 – 25.

SUNDAY:

SCSD – Calls came in from Smith’s supermarket reporting that several people were missing their wallets. Deputies spoke with two different women who said they were shopping and when it came time to check out, their wallets were gone.

Further investigation found that a man and then later a woman had been shopping at the nearby Best Buy. The man attempted to buy five $500 gift cards which were declined but was later able to purchase a camera costing $752. The woman later bought more than $5,000 in Apple electronics. Deputies were able to gather video surveillance of both the suspects.

While making contact on a suspicious vehicle at the Smith’s parking lot, the driver consented to a search of the car which had drug paraphernalia and possibly stolen identification cards. The car came up stolen. The driver was placed under arrest and found to be in possession of possibly stolen financial transaction cards. The driver was transported to Summit County Jail and the vehicle was impounded.
