Calls for service: Police and sheriff logs
A disturbed hang glider, a disturbed mountain lion and a disturbed library book highlight the calls for service made to the Park City Police Department (PCPD) and the Summit County Sheriff’s Department (SCSD) for the week of July 12 – 18.
MONDAY:
SCSD – A call was received from a man stating that there had been a trespassing and a theft of some yard plants by his ex-wife.
PCPD – A man was out cold, asleep behind the wheel of a car at the stoplight intersection of Kearns Blvd. and Monitor Drive. The car was in Park. An officer needed to knock on the window to wake him up.
TUESDAY:
SCSD – A man in his 70’s was reported missing by his wife. He has Alzheimer’s and is part of Project Lifesaver International – a program that helps locate missing persons. A short time after the report was made, he was located at a hotel near Canyons Village, not too far from his home, in good health.
PCPD – In the Old Town neighborhood, a fire was reported which was in a fire pit, however, the caller could see the high flames, on the windy night five houses away.
THURSDAY:
PCPD – A dog chased a mountain lion, upon the officer’s arrival at the caller’s location, the mountain Lion was up in a tree.
FRIDAY:
SCSD – Search and Rescue (SAR) units were notified by authorities that a Boy Scout group had not returned from its hike at the expected time. SAR monitored the situation while a deputy hiked the trail with the caller to assist.
SCSD – A man in his 30’s was arrested after he and his mother were involved in a verbal argument. During the argument, the son was close to his mother’s face and was yelling at her. The son grabbed a library book out of his mother’s hands and tore the pages out. He left the residence before deputies arrived but returned a short time later.
SATURDAY:
PCPD – Maintenance workers restored operations to the St. Regis funicular after one of the cars was temporarily halted halfway up the track with 12 people inside.
PCPD – A caller notified officers that a hang glider had flown off the summit of PC Hill, as they are wont to do. The caller described what looked like a possible unstable landing and was afraid they may have crashed. Shortly thereafter, a glider took off and landed in the North 40 Field indicating the welfare of the first flight.
