Pack Creek Fire update: new evacuations of all private property
SAN JUAN COUNTY, Utah. — In response to the Pack Creek Fire, the San Juan County Sheriffs Office ordered new evacuations of all private property in and around the area east of Geyser Pass on the La Sal Mountains, from Blue Lake down through the Dark Canyon area (south of Moab). “We have been notified that the Pack Creek Fire has breached the Geyser Pass road,” the press release said.
According to Utah Fire Info, on the evening of Sunday, June 13 the Pack Creek fire is at a size of 7,200 acres and is 10% contained. The Aspen Cove subdivision has been evacuated. Current closures include Bennion Ridge Road, Forest Road 008 (Bear Ridge Road), Starvation Road, and Fish Creek Trail.
Four primary buildings and six secondary structures have been destroyed in the Pack Creek area and five primary structures were damaged by the 8-square-mile (20-square-kilometer) blaze, according to the Associate Press.
The fire is burning through grass, brush, and timber. This terrain is rugged, with steep canyons.
