Calls for service: Police and sheriff logs

Cars crashing into homes and cars being used as homes highlight the calls for service to the Park City Police Department (PCPD) and the Summit County Sheriff’s Department (SCSD) for the week of June 21 – 27.

MONDAY:

A SCSD deputy responded to and completed and filed the paperwork for a call of a stolen trailer on the far west side of Park City. On the far east side of Park City, the deputy later located the trailer. The owner being unavailable at that time, a tow company was contacted whereupon they came and took the trailer to their yard to hold.

WEDNESDAY:

At the Boneyard Bar back parking lot off Kearns Blvd., a large group of juveniles and adults were located by PCPD officers during a patrol. Upon initial contact, officers observed underage suspects possessing and consuming alcohol and identified several suspects during contact. The juveniles were released to guardians with referrals for unlawful consumption/possession and adults were released with citations.

PCPD officers responded to a snowboard shop at the Park City Mountain base area. Two girls had shoplifted a hoody before walking away. Officers found the girls at the Adventure Park in the same area. During the investigation, the girls were found to be in possession of an additional clothing item and were referred to juvenile court.

SCSD Deputies responded to the Newpark area for reports of a man and woman who had been sleeping in their car in the Newpark parking structures. The couple was reported to have been littering out of the car and creating a nuisance on the private property. The caller requested that the couple leave the parking structures as this situation had been going on for several weeks. Both individuals were contacted and informed they were trespassing and they left without incident.

THURSDAY:

A call came in to the SCSD from a house Brown’s Canyon. Deputies responded to the given location after it was reported that a man was driving recklessly in a red truck.  While responding to the incident, dispatch received an additional report that the red truck had crashed into a residence.  Upon arrival, the truck was found abandoned with extensive damage to both the vehicle and the property that was struck.  A witness was able to provide a description of the driver who was eventually located at his nearby residence.  The suspect was cleared by medical, given a ticket for failing to remain at the scene of a traffic accident and the car was towed away.

At mile marker one on State Route 40, SCSD deputies responded to an SUV that was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes. The car was located while it was still traveling the wrong way.  A responding deputy was eventually able to get the car to stop and contact was made with the driver.  Signs of impairment were observed while speaking with the driver and he performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests.  He was subsequently taken into custody for DUI and transported to the Summit County Jail without incident and the SUV was impounded.
