Snowmess: Roads snarled by weather, accidents
The morning’s snow brought a host of headaches to commuters and travelers Wednesday and left emergency crews scrambling to clear roadways after multiple accidents involving semi trucks.
On I80 Westbound, a semi rolled over early this morning, leading to diverted traffic and an hours-long road closure. Across the region, a semi jackknifed on I84, which was cleared by 8 a.m., and another semi got tangled up in a median barrier on I15, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
As of 9:00 a.m., I80 Westbound traffic was being diverted to I215 while UHP waited for “a heavy duty wrecker, or two, to clean up the mess.”
Spokesman Nick Street of the UHP said he expected the road would reopen soon.
UPDATE: Westbound I80 is open, but motorists report multiple slide-offs between Park City and Salt Lake City, and commute through the canyon taking well over an hour. Anyone who can should avoid road travel right now.
