PARK CITY, Utah — Whether you celebrate with a slice of pie and a locally brewed beer or a small-town parade and rodeo, Utah’s unique July 24 holiday offers something for just about everyone.

Pioneer Day commemorates the arrival of Latter-day Saint pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, while the unofficial “Pie and Beer Day” has become a lighthearted alternative embraced by breweries, restaurants, and community groups across the state.

For Park City and Summit County residents, this year’s holiday includes both local community gatherings and easy day trips to celebrations around northern Utah.

Park City

Station II Bar by Zion Brewery will celebrate the 24th beginning at noon with a simple Pie and Beer Day special: guests who purchase a pint of Zion Brewery beer will receive a free hot dog while supplies last. The event invites locals and visitors to gather on the patio with a cold local beer to celebrate.

Summit Community Gardens & EATS will also host a Pie and Beer Day celebration Friday evening. The 21+ fundraising event features food trucks, pizza, dessert pies, and beverages in an outdoor community setting.

Salt Lake City

Utah’s largest Pioneer Day celebrations remain centered in Salt Lake City, where residents can choose between traditional festivities and Pie and Beer Day events.

Highlights include:

The historic Days of ’47 Parade through downtown on the morning of July 24.
The nationally recognized Days of ’47 Rodeo running throughout the holiday week.
Pie and Beer Day festivities at Ballpark Stadium, featuring thousands of slices of pie alongside local breweries and food vendors.
A 10 p.m. drone show at Liberty Park and fireworks following the Salt Lake Bees game at Daybreak Field at America First Square.

Wasatch County

If you’re heading over the hill, Heber Valley offers a more traditional small-town Pioneer Day atmosphere.

Charleston kicks off July 24 bright and early with its traditional 6 a.m. cannon wake-up call, followed by a flag-raising ceremony, a community 5K, and breakfast. Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy games, a car show, local vendors, food trucks, and live music before the celebration wraps up with a 10 p.m. laser light show.

In Heber City, Wasatch County Fair Days begin Thursday, July 23, and continue through Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Wasatch County Outdoor Arena and Southfield Park. On Pioneer Day, the Demolition Derby takes center stage at 7 p.m., while the weeklong celebration also features a country market, carnival rides, livestock and agricultural exhibits, entertainment, and other family-friendly fair activities.

Kamas

Kamas is known for its annual Fiesta Days celebration, traditionally held around Pioneer Day. The hometown festival includes a parade, rodeo, demolition derby, community events, and the Miss Fiesta Days pageant, making it one of Summit County’s longest-running Pioneer Day traditions.

Fireworks reminder

Although recent improvements in wildfire conditions have returned more authority to local governments, fireworks restrictions still vary by community and high-risk areas remain off limits.

Summit County is under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions, which means that all fireworks are prohibited. This applies to all public and private land within Summit County, including within city boundaries.

Residents should check local restrictions before lighting any personal fireworks.
