Park City High names Dennis Cunningham as new head football coach

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City High School has named Dennis Cunningham as the new head coach of the Miners football program, elevating a familiar presence within the school after a month-long search.

In announcing the hire, Park City High Principal Caleb Fine said Cunningham stood out for his commitment to student-athletes and the program’s culture. Because he has spent the past four seasons within Park City High athletics, school leaders said he is positioned to step into the role with continuity and a strong understanding of the team.

“We are thrilled to have Coach Cunningham lead our football program into its next chapter,” Fine said in the school’s announcement. “His passion for the game is matched only by his dedication to the character development of our students. Because he has been an integral part of PCHS football and athletics for the past four seasons, he is uniquely positioned to step into this role immediately and maintain the momentum our athletes have built.”

Cunningham takes over the Miners program following a leadership transition earlier this year, when former head coach Josh Montzingo stepped down after 10 seasons. As TownLift previously reported, Montzingo’s tenure included 82 victories, four region championships, and three playoff appearances at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Cunningham brings both familiarity and playing experience to the position. According to the school, he won a state championship as a high school senior and later played four years of college football at Utah State University. He has also served in several coaching roles at Park City High over the past four years.

School officials said Cunningham’s vision for the program centers on a positive team culture, hard work, and personal accountability, with an emphasis on helping players grow not only as athletes but also as young men and leaders in the community.
