Two killed in head-on crash on US-40 near Strawberry Reservoir

WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — Two people were killed Saturday afternoon after a box truck crossed the center line on US-40 near Strawberry Reservoir and struck an oncoming pickup truck, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. near mile post 51. Sgt. Luis Silva of the Utah Highway Patrol said the box truck, traveling eastbound, failed to maintain its lane, left the roadway to the right, overcorrected and crossed into the path of a westbound pickup truck.

The two occupants of the pickup truck suffered fatal injuries. The driver was a 39-year-old male and the passenger was a 34-year-old male. Their identities have not been released. The box truck driver was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Westbound lanes were temporarily closed before traffic was alternated through the eastbound lanes.
