Police Log: Officers respond to Sundance traffic and parking, a hotel bomb threat, and other incidents

Monday, January 26

Incident: DUI
A driver was stopped for speeds over 100 MPH and was found to be alcohol restricted, interlock restricted, driving on a suspended license, and under the influence. The driver was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail.

Incident: Business assist
A Marriott operations manager reported a guest harassing a neighboring room at 2 a.m.

Incident: Traffic stops
Multiple vehicles throughout the day were stopped after officers observed them traveling southbound on Park Avenue against a “Do Not Enter” sign at Heber Avenue.

Incident: Traffic stop
A vehicle was stopped near DoubleTree for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and making an improper left turn.

Incident: Fight in progress
Transit reported a fight on Bus 640 at the 7th Street & Park Avenue stop.

Tuesday, January 27

Incident: Parking problem
A semi-truck parked on Swede Alley near the transit center was blocking buses and other traffic.

Incident: Parking problem
Vehicles parked on the wrong side of Comstock Drive during Sundance were reported.

Wednesday, January 28

Incident: Traffic stop
A driver on Sidewinder Drive & Kearns Boulevard was cited for failing to yield to pedestrians in a school crosswalk.

Incident: Parking problem
Parking enforcement requested two vehicles on Swede Alley be tagged for exceeding the 72-hour limit.

Thursday, January 29

Incident: Citizen contact
A vehicle owner was contacted sleeping in the front seat of his car while parked on Sidewinder Dr. He stated he was an Uber driver taking a break between rides.

Incident: Hit and run
A vehicle parked on Woodside Avenue was struck by another vehicle. Witnesses provided a description and possible license plate.

Incident: Hit and run
A vehicle on Norfolk Avenue was struck sometime between 11:54 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The complainant requested a report.

Incident: Wildlife problem
A moose near the Sullivan Road tennis courts was reported. The animal was not aggressive, but the caller requested monitoring to prevent potential injuries.

Incident: Drugs
A traffic stop with K9 assistance resulted in the discovery of user amounts of narcotics. The driver was arrested and the vehicle impounded.

Incident: Pursuit
Deputies were alerted to a vehicle fleeing from Murray PD and UHP. A Summit UHP trooper initiated a stop on Silver Creek Road, but the vehicle failed to yield. Deputies later located the vehicle on Mammoth Drive and initiated a traffic stop, which continued briefly into Foothill Drive in Salt Lake City before being terminated. The case was forwarded to the County Attorney’s Office for review.

Friday, January 30

Incident: Theft
A complainant reported a theft that occurred on a transit bus on Ironhorse Drive and provided video evidence to law enforcement.

Incident: Wildlife problem
A baby moose was reported on the side of Sidewinder Drive near the Prospector Club.

Incident: Suspicious
A camper van with graffiti was reported parked on Centennial Circle.

Saturday, January 31

Incident: Disturbing the peace
Loud music was reported at a Main Street short term rental. Officers advised the occupants to reduce the volume.

Incident: Parking problem
Several vehicles were reported parked illegally on Woodside Avenue between 13th and 14th Streets and were to be ticketed.

Incident: Animal problem
A caller reported a dog was left in a white SUV parked on Richardson Flat Road since 8 a.m.

Incident: Citizen assist
A resident requested an officer check a large blast heard near the PCMR parking garage behind 7-11.

Incident: Agency assist
Officers assisted the State Bureau of Investigation in shutting down a bar on Main Street that was operating illegally. The closure was completed without incident.

Incident: Fraud
The complainant reported multiple fraudulent credit card charges in Kamas. A suspect was located, interviewed, and booked on several counts. The suspect was also linked to a prior Park City fraud case.

Sunday, February 1

Incident: Animal problem
A German Shepherd-type dog was reported barking constantly on Little Kate Road. The caller stated this was an ongoing issue.

Incident: Bomb threat
Deputies responded to a bomb threat at the Westgate Hotel. Hotel staff implemented a shelter-in-place while law enforcement conducted a thorough search using explosive detection resources. No devices were located, and no threat to public safety was found. The call was made using a robotic voice and matched a series of similar statewide hoax calls.
