PARK CITY, Utah — Deputies with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported bomb threat at the Westgate Park City Resort on Saturday evening, prompting a precautionary shelter-in-place while law enforcement conducted a search of the property.
According to Sgt. Skyler Talbot, spokesperson for the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the call was reported to dispatch just before 7 p.m. Deputies, along with assisting law enforcement agencies, searched the hotel and surrounding area using explosive detection resources. No suspicious devices were found, and authorities quickly determined there was no threat to public safety.
Hotel staff implemented a shelter-in-place as a precaution during the response.
The threat was delivered via a phone call to the hotel from an unknown number. Talbot described the call as coming from a robotic or automated voice and was made on a non-recorded line, limiting investigative leads.
Law enforcement officials believe the incident is consistent with a pattern of similar bomb threats reported recently across Utah, all of which have been determined to be hoaxes.
“This is the first incident in Summit County that we believe may be related to that pattern,” Talbot said, noting that the broader context came from conversations with Utah Bomb Task Force, which is familiar with similar cases elsewhere in the state.
Talbot said the Sheriff’s Office maintains an active investigation, though the nature of the call makes it difficult to pursue additional leads.
“There’s really not a lot to go off of,” he said. “Based on the type of call and the lack of identifying information, there are limited avenues available.”
No injuries were reported, and normal operations resumed after the search was completed.
