Willow Creek Park Pond opens for outdoor ice skating

PARK CITY, Utah — The Willow Creek Park Pond is officially open for ice skating, Basin Recreation announced Wednesday, marking a long-awaited winter amenity after a slow start to the season.

When weather conditions allow, the pond is converted into a natural outdoor ice rink for public use. Colder temperatures over the past week finally created a safe layer of ice, allowing Basin Rec crews to prepare the surface for skating.

Staff began snow removal efforts at the pond on Jan. 1, but early work revealed several weak spots and holes in the ice, delaying the opening. Once conditions improved, crews cleared remaining snow and mopped the surface to create a smoother skating area.

The ice rink is free and open to the public, though skaters must bring their own equipment, as skate rentals are not available on site.

Basin Recreation reminded visitors that dogs are not permitted on the ice.
