PARK CITY, Utah — If you’re one of many local enthusiasts who have been waiting for uphill season to begin in Park City – the wait is over. Park City Mountain announced uphill travel routes will open this evening, allowing skiers and riders to resume skinning and hiking access after a delayed start to the winter season.
Uphill travel resumes at 6 p.m. Jan. 1 following snow conditions that resort officials said took longer than expected to develop. The reopening applies only to designated uphill routes, according to Park City Mountain.
Uphill access will be permitted daily from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. The resort has shaved off 30 minutes for early morning hikers. This year, the cutoff to transition and ski or ride down by 8 a.m., not 8:30 a.m.

Uphill travelers may use Lower Silver Skis as an alternative route to the Homerun switchbacks out of Mountain Village. Access is not permitted past the angle station on Homerun near the top terminal of Town Lift, according to resort guidelines.
Park City Mountain, operated by Vail Resorts, limits uphill travel to specific routes and hours to reduce conflicts with grooming operations and lift-served skiing.
Additional information and a map of approved routes are available on the resort’s website.
