Summit County Council on Wednesday night approved a proclamation declaring Jan. 27, 2026, “Help America Vote Day” — and used the moment to recognize four longtime poll workers who have helped run elections in the county year after year.
The council highlighted Linda and Rich Dolan, along with Renata and Gary Dalton, for their steady presence in polling places through early mornings, long shifts, and the high-stakes intensity that can surround election days. County officials credited experienced poll workers like the Dolans and the Daltons with helping ensure elections remain accessible, accurate, safe, and secure for Summit County voters.
In the proclamation, the Dolans were recognized for a service style that focused on welcoming voters and keeping polling locations running smoothly. The county noted the couple often divided responsibilities between polling locations, aiming to make each site feel familiar — a place where neighbors could participate in civic life with ease.
The Daltons were similarly recognized for bringing both calm and seriousness to the work. County officials described Gary Dalton as attentive and steady, and Renata Dalton as committed and purposeful — a pairing the county said reflects the wide range of people who step into the voting booth and the importance of supporting every voter without judgment.
The council’s recognition also underscored a reality poll workers know well: emotions can run high during elections. The proclamation framed the Dolans and the Daltons as examples of integrity and public service — people who show up, stay professional, and help the process work the way it’s supposed to.
Summit County is encouraging residents interested in becoming poll workers to apply through the county’s election worker information page on SummitCounty.info.
